MUET Writing at a Glance
📋 The Writing Paper
The MUET Writing paper has 2 tasks and lasts 75 minutes total. Both tasks test different skills, so each needs its own strategy.
Task 1
Guided Email / Letter
25 min · 100+ words · 30 marks
Task 2
Essay Writing
50 min · 250+ words · 60 marks
💡Don't worry about being perfect! The examiner wants to see that you can communicate your ideas clearly — not that you're a grammar expert.
Quick-Start Practice
Understanding Each Task
✉️ Task 1 – Guided Writing (Email / Letter)
What you'll get: An email or letter from someone (a friend, a teacher, etc.) with notes telling you what to include in your reply.
What you write: A reply that covers ALL the notes given. Be friendly or formal — match the tone!
Example: Your friend emails you asking for advice on dishes for a cooking competition. The notes say: "Yes (confirm), Great! (react), Suggest two dishes, Tell Cindy (your opinion on recipe books)."
Key tip: Address every note. Missing even one note loses you marks! ✅
📝 Task 2 – Extended Writing (Essay)
What you'll get: A statement or opinion — for example: "Education on mental health is necessary in the 21st century."
What you write: A proper essay of at least 250 words. You can agree, disagree, or discuss both sides.
Structure needed: Introduction → 2–3 body paragraphs → Conclusion
Key tip: Give reasons + examples for every point. "Because..." and "For example..." are your best friends! 💪
Band Descriptions (Writing)
💡 Bands 3–4 are achievable for most students. Focus on completing all tasks, using varied sentences, and organising your ideas well.
